Terms of Service

Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account or using MarkBot you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
What MarkBot Does
MarkBot uses AI (Google Gemini) to analyse and grade student exam papers against provided or inferred marking criteria. Results are returned to the teacher who submitted the papers.
MarkBot is a tool to assist teachers — not a replacement for professional judgement. Final grading decisions remain with the teacher.
Your Responsibilities
By using MarkBot you agree to:
- Provide accurate account information and keep credentials secure.
- Only upload content you have the right to process (e.g. papers from your own classes).
- Not use the service for any unlawful purpose.
- Review AI-generated marks before sharing results with students.
- Comply with any data protection obligations applicable to you (e.g. GDPR, UK GDPR).
Credits & Payment
MarkBot operates on a prepaid credit system:
- 1 credit = 1 page of marking.
- Credits are deducted when a batch is submitted. If a batch fails, credits are automatically refunded.
- Credits do not expire.
- All purchases are final. Credits cannot be exchanged for cash.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details are handled by Stripe and never stored by us.
AI Limitations & Accuracy
AI marking is not perfect. Factors like poor scan quality, ambiguous handwriting, or unusual question formats can affect accuracy.
- Always review AI output before returning results to students.
- Do not rely solely on MarkBot for high-stakes or formal assessments.
- MarkBot is not liable for marks that are later found to be incorrect.
Intellectual Property
You retain full ownership of all content you upload. By using the service you grant MarkBot a limited, non-exclusive licence to process that content for the sole purpose of delivering the marking service. We do not use your papers to train AI models.
Limitation of Liability
MarkBot is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, MarkBot and its creator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the service — including but not limited to incorrect grades, service downtime, or data loss.
Account Termination
You may close your account at any time. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. On termination, your data will be deleted within 30 days.
Changes to Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We'll notify you by email for material changes. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
